Channel Manager

image

One NTB must be a "Publisher" and the others will be "Subscribers". All NTBs can be configured as either.

The Channel content will be the default Layout and any other Layouts that are in the Schedule on the Publishing NTB.

Publishing is a manual process, not automatic.

If an NTB has published itself as a Channel then another NTB can be made to subscribe to the Channel provided that it can access it over a network.

Subscribing is automatic and happens on a regular basis. Some time after a Channel is re-published, the subscribers will pick up the changes.

It is possible to log into a Subscriber and make changes but these will be removed the next time the Channel is re-published. Local customisation of content is, however, possible if the item in the playlsit is of an "Ad-Hoc" type.

How to Publish an NTB as a Channel

  1. Finalise the Schedule on the Publisher.
  2. Go to the "Setup | Channel" page on the Publisher.
  3. Change the role to "NTB Publishes Channel content".
  4. When the new page appears, go to the "Publish Channel" page and click "Publish Now".
  5. Go to the "Channel Status" page and wait for the process to reach 100%.

How to Subscribe an NTB to a Channel

  1. Log into the NTB that must subscribe to the Channel.
  2. Go to the "Setup | Channel" page on the Subscriber.
  3. Change the role to "NTB Subscribes to a Channel".
  4. Set the "Subscription Poll Interval" according to how often you want the Subscriber to check for changes on the Publisher. If you intend to publish daily, then subscribe hourly. If publishing weekly, subscribe daily, and so on.
  5. The "Channel Subscription URL" will be:
http://" followed by the address of the Publisher followed by "/data/channel".
    E.g. "http://192.168.1.250/data/channel".
  6. Set "Authentication" to log into the Publisher with the same username and password that you used to access the Publisher.
  7. Click the "Apply" button.
  8. Go to the "HOME | Channel" page.
  9. Wait until the subscription process is 100% complete. After a minute or two the Subscriber will restart it's display and show the same content as the Publisher.
  10. Repeat for each Subscribing NTB.

How to Re-Publish the Channel

Assuming that Channel Manager has been set up as discussed above:

  1. Make changes to the Channel Layout(s) on the Publisher.
  2. Go to the "Publish Channel" page and click "Publish Now".
  3. Go to the "Channel Status" page and wait for the process to reach 100%.
  4. The Subscribing NTBs will respond the next time that they poll the Publisher.
