Overview

Definitions:

• One or more Display Devices can be driven from a Net-Top-Box (NTB).
• An NTB has a Schedule.
• A Schedule has one or more Layouts to play at specific times.
• A Layout is made up from one or more rectangular Zones.
• Every Zone has a Playlist.
• A Playlist has one or more media items (Content).
• Content can be video, audio, images or text files stored on the NTB or video, adudio and web content sourced over the Internet or airwaves.

Multiple NTBs:

• Multiple NTBs can be grouped into a Channel.
• A Channel has one Publishing NTB and one or more Subscribing NTBs.
• Any NTB can be configured as either a Publisher or a Subscriber.
• The Schedule on the Publishing NTB is the Schedule for the whole Channel.
• A Digital Signage Network can have one or more Channels

An Analogy from the TV World:

TV	Digital Signage
A TV Network has TV stations.	Signage networks have Channels
A TV station is tuned into by TV sets.	A Channel has NTBs showing it
A TV station has a programme.	A Channel has a Schedule
A TV programme has shows.	A Schedule has Layouts
A TV show has an area for a sponsors logo.	Layouts have Zones
A TV show has a storyboard.	Zones have Playlists
A TV show is made from film clips.	Playlists have Content
